DMV Sucks

The crazy morning begins,
Followed by unanticipated rain,
Without any prior appointments,
I walked into the DMV office,
With all my documents.
By God’s grace got a slot to park,
Had a hunch that the queue would be small,
But the office was cramped,
And the clock struck eight.

At the entrance, a bloke stood by,
Asked me to follow the non-appointment line,
Positioned in the tenth,
I was confident that my turn would come in a while.
The office was brimming with people of all ages,
Juveniles screening through the pages,
Waiting for their turns to take a written test,
A dad yelling at the son, “I knew you would fail ‘behind the wheel test’.”

Some came for their vehicle registration renewal,
A woman stood by,
Carrying a conversation with the clerk,
About how she got divorced,
And enquiring about the documents,
Required for the name change,
All had their own set of problems,
Everyone seemed to be in haste.

An hour passed by,
I was still holding the same position,
Wondering when my turn would come!
I got the ticket number,
And documents verified,
Again the waiting started,
Till the ticket number would be called.

An hour passed by,
Staring at the indicator,
Wondering when my turn would come!
Confident my work will be done.
An hour passed by,
Finally, I get up to the clerk that calls my number.

The clerk was too busy to greet me,
Looked at all my applications,
She murmured something,
Which I did not understand,
She told me that one document was missing,
Not giving me a chance to…
