Race Concept Prototype

In the current stage, the Motorsport world is rapidly developing and everyone is aiming for top performance on the track with a good amount of efficiency. Every team is investing a lot of funds in improving their vehicle dynamics and performance. The interesting part is that in recent days Motorsport industries have also started using alternate sources of power which hence proves a challenging job for the R&D to design the vehicle. In the same spirit, my team Racing Stallions Hindustan racing team designed a Drag Race prototype car named RS1 to compete in the 2018 Formula-1 in school’s national championship.

The design concept of RS1 is originally based on Aquatic organisms mostly resembling Saw sharks and Sailfish which do have a higher top speed in the water. By taking inspiration from aquatic life, it has been possible for RS1 to get a good streamlined design which helps the car to get the least air resistance hence making the car eligible to attain greater top speeds.

The designing crew started the conceptual design of the car on paper with reference to Automotive Design crew members. With the help of the design, the prototype was created on the cad cam software to get an appropriate orthographic view of the prototype. With the help of the 3D prototype, we performed several aerodynamic drag tests on the Flow Design software which ensured us a few design flaws that were affecting the Drag Coefficient of the car and thus the potential to reach the top speed. But in the aim for thriving the best the crew from racing stallions produced the RS1 with the Average Drag Coefficient of 0.34 hence making RS1 entitled to greater top speed on the linear track.

The team was successfully able to produce the prototype of the car. The car was manufactured using 3d printed parts and CNC machined body. The team was sponsored by Rolls-Royce aviation and Rajmandir Hypermarket.
